Here you can read about ways to update historical Forex rates from the program's web page Forex Rates. This is where you can download free EURUSD, EURGBP, USDCHF and USDJPY rates. They are updated every weekend. (
Eastern Europe time zone)
The format of the files is described in detail in the article Forex Rates Update.
First, you need to create a folder to store the rates. By default, the rates are stored in the .\Data folder, which is in the program's main directory, but you are free to use a place of your own choice.
This manual will use the FSB Data folder, situated in the Windows Vista Documents folder. To follow the manual, go to the Documents folder, right-click on it, choose New and then Folder. Call the folder FSB Data.
The web page to download rates is as follows: http://forexsb.com/rates.html.
To easily access it, use the Market - Download Data menu of Forex Strategy Builder.
The page contains a table with essential rates information:
Rates can be downloaded following the links in the table. Save the files to the newly created folder ..\Documents\FSB Data.
I, personally, use Firefox, and in order to specify where to save the file, I right-click on the link and choose Save Link As….
The rates are in ZIP format. Use your archiving program to extract the files. I use the free archiver 7-Zip. Use the Extract Here option. That way the rates will be extracted here and not in separate sub-folders.
After having extracted them, you can delete the zip files.
Now you have the files you need:
The last thing to do is to tell Forex Strategy Builder where to load the rates from.
This is done using the Market - Data Directory… menu. Use the Browse button to specify the rates folder.
Press Accept to confirm. Forex Strategy Builder will save this folder to its settings and will use it any time you work with the program.
